The ISHI PAMOJA KWA AMANI Great Lakes Coalition (IPKA), is a sub-regional civil society structure made up of individuals, associations and organizations of youth, women, adults and other non-state actors from the Great Lakes region (Burundi, Rwanda DRC), who decided to fight for Peace and Living Together in Peace and Harmony for the Citizens of our three sister countries, inseparable geographically, with a common destiny and values.
Convinced that Sustainable Peace, living together, peaceful cohabitation of our citizens of the three countries (Burundi ,DRC and Rwanda) is still possible, and the only way to avoid escalation of conflicts and war between our sister countries; Aware of the rise in incendiary , hate , and populist speeches aiming at dividing our citizens of the Great Lakes region (Burundi, Rwanda, DRC); Admitting the dark past of our three countries which has led to killings, wars and genocide in our three countries; The ISHI PAMOJA KWA AMANI Great Lakes Coalition (IPKA), joins and congratulates the cardinals, archbishops, bishops and priests of the Catholic Church from Burundi , Rwanda and the DRC for their call for peace, living together in harmony for countries and citizens of the Great Lakes region , launched yesterday the January 28th 2024 in GOMA Democratic Republic of Congo .
On this note, the ISHI PAMOJA KWA AMANI Great Lakes Coalition (IPKA), reiterates its commitment and support for all peace initiatives for the Great Lakes Region and its participation alongside all actors working for peace and living together in harmony for citizens of the Great Lakes region. (Burundi, Rwanda, DRC). The ISHI PAMOJA KWA AMANI Great Lakes Coalition (IPKA) recalls its endorsement to the search for peace in the Great Lakes region focusing on:
- Grassroots Peer Dialogue Approach “GPDA”; a participatory approach that excludes no one in the agreement to seek peace and living together for our citizens of the three sister countries for the Horizon 2030 which includes. - Introduction of the sustainable peace and living together values adapted curriculum in primary, secondary schools and universities in our region; - Awareness campaign “SILAHA SI RAHA, UNAFIKI SI URAFIKI, KIBURI NI KABURI” among young people in general and those at risk and vulnerable in particular; - Construction of a joint House and center for the Living Together in Peace “LIVING TOGETHER IN PEACE ACADEMY LTPA for the Great sub-Lakes-region. - Using sport and culture diversities for peace and living together in the Great Lakes Region.
